Course Objectives:

Enhancements to the 1x system are needed to offer packet data services at rates greater than 2 Mbps. Network operators are anxious to introduce new services such as broadcast/multicast, Push-to-talk, etc. There are two alternatives for 1x network evolution commonly known as 1xEV-DO (1xEVolution for Data Optimized) and 1xEV-DV (1xEVolution for Data and Voice). This module describes the goals and requirements of both evolution alternatives. A detailed comparison of the features and capabilities of 1xEV-DO and 1xEV-DV are discussed at the end.
